The famous calanques rock formations of Cassis and Marseille (45 minutes)

The Sainte Victoire mountain range and region is ideal for hiking (20-30 minutes). Access is controlled in the summer due to the risk of fire. We have maps and guides to help plan your walk, for a variety of distances.

The magnificent site of the Gorges du Verdon is also a good place to go rafting and hiking on the Martel trail. (about one and a half hours away)

The village of Venelles has tennis courts that can be rented for a small fee.

Recommended Regional Delicacies and Artisanal Products

In addition the many famous sights and pleasures of Provence, there are some real treats we recommend nearby:

For chocolate lovers there is the Chocolaterie de Puyricard offering a tour of its facility as well as a range of delicious artisanal chocolates for sale and it is only ten minutes away by car.

An example of a truly local craft (now sold all over the world), Maison Fouque in Aix-en-Provence is famous for its handcrafted figurines, especially of provençal figures and a Christmas creche. You can visit the site and enjoy its exhibition as well as become a collector or simply shop for gifts.

The Valensole plateau and village is 25 minutes away by car and well worth a visit. It is situated to the south of the Alpes-du-Haute-Provence, near Digne-les-Bains and the Verdon Gorges. It is famous for its abundant fields of lavender, and a host of charming villages such as Saint-Martin-de-Brômes, Riez and Esparron-de-Verdon. The best time for a view of the landscape in full bloom is July, when Valensole is awash with beautiful blue lavender. For refreshment, and shopping, head to the village of Valensole itself, famous for its lavender honey.
